Voices from the Tackling Poverty Assembly: Nick Gardham on the Power of Community Organising
The latest film in our Voices from the Tackling Poverty Assembly series features Nick Gardham, Chief Executive of Community Organisers and Director of the European Community Organisers Network.
Opening the afternoon session of the Assembly, Nick shared his experience of working alongside communities across the UK and Europe, reflecting on how people can create meaningful change when they organise around the issues that matter most to them.
His address focused on the power of communities to influence systems that can often appear resistant to change. Rather than waiting for solutions to come from elsewhere, Nick encouraged participants to recognise the strength that comes from building relationships, listening to one another and taking collective action.
That message closely reflected the purpose of the Wrexham Poverty Action Collaboration (WPAC), which brings together Together Creating Communities (TCC), Citizens Advice Wrexham, Wrexham Foodbank and a growing network of community organisations committed to ensuring lived experience helps shape decisions about tackling poverty.
During his presentation, Nick also introduced the Humanity Project film, which features the work of TCC, WPAC and communities across the UK exploring how People’s Assemblies can strengthen democracy, participation and community voice.
His contribution reminded everyone attending the Assembly that lasting change is built through collaboration, trust and communities working together to shape the future of the places where they live.
