Participation Isn’t Enough: Community Power and Systems Change
What does meaningful participation actually look like? For TCC, the answer has always been about more than simply inviting people into a room, asking for…
“The secret message communicated to most young people today by the society around them is that they are not needed, that the society will run itself quite nicely until they – at some distant point in the future – will take over the reins. Yet the fact is that society is not running itself nicely For society to attempt to solve its desperate problems without the full participation of even very young people is imbecile.”
— Alvin Toffler

Young participants are trained in community organising and supported to campaign on these issues to make an active change, challenging power holders and decision-makers.
This group brings together young people from TCC member groups and schools to work on issues important to them – such as Healthy Minds Haven, and #NoHungryLearners, as well as take part in training and learning sessions on organising, communication, democracy, and power.

Our leaders and adult-led member groups work side by side with young leaders through planning and strategy groups where they share knowledge and contacts that they have acquired through years of activism.
We work with partners who use a well-being approach and through our training develop a self-care tool kit. We facilitate young activists’ circle of care meetings, and create risk assessments for all activities and actions – this functions as part of our safeguarding policy and practice.

Young people between 14 – 30 who would like to join Youth in Action, become a Young Leader or engage in other TCC activities, will need a parent /carer to complete the permission form by clicking on the button below.
TCC will then be in contact with you to welcome you on board and confirm the arrangements!
