Building Community Through Play at Refugee Week
On 20 June 2026, TCC attended Refugee Week celebrations at Tŷ Pawb, organised by Refugee Kindness and partners from across Wrexham.
Although our Belonging in Our Community campaign has not yet officially launched, the event reflected many of the values that will shape this developing work – bringing people together, creating connections and exploring what makes communities thrive.

TCC Community Organiser Ruth Marshall led a Lego listening activity, inviting children and young people to build a community that felt safe, welcoming and attractive to them.
Interestingly, conversations quickly moved beyond the buildings themselves. While participants enjoyed creating homes, parks and community spaces, many spoke instead about the importance of the people who live there. For many children, a good community was simply described as “nice people with other nice people”.
Ruth was joined by one of TCC’s youngest Youth Leaders, Evelyn (8), who did an excellent job encouraging other children to get involved and share their ideas.
The event was a wonderful celebration of community, creativity and belonging, and provided valuable insight into how even the youngest voices understand what makes a community feel like home.
