Climate change
TCC groups are continuing to work on the issue of climate change, following up on commitments made by Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham councils at TCC’s 25th anniversary event.
We have been focusing on building positive working relationships with local authority officers and councillors, encouraging them to take ambitious and rapid action to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies.

Separately, the group has also been considering the issue of divestment, looking at the Clwyd pension fund, and young leaders have recently written to Sophie Howe, the Future Generations Commissioner.
At the February strategy meeting there was space for discussion between all TCC members about what aspects of climate change are most important to them and their communities. Ideas raised included energy efficiency of new build homes and privately owned homes, electric car charging points, food packaging, and green energy grants for all.

In the Accountability Meetings ahead of the Senedd elections in May 2021, all candidates that we met with were asked a question on the climate emergency - How would you influence a more proactive and forward-thinking approach on climate change?
Candidates were also asked whether they would agree to support the Friends of the Earth Cymru pledge and commit to prioritising climate and nature if elected. All of the candidates that TCC met with agreed to this pledge.
