We are currently recruiting new trustees to join our board.

We are especially interested to hear from people with knowledge and experience of finance or human resources.

 

TCC is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation that exists to challenge social injustice. As the oldest community organising charity in the country, TCC has been working to effect positive change in North Wales for nearly 30 years. We do this by bringing together local groups that exist within diverse communities, supporting them to develop the power they need to take action that brings about positive change. Our members include community groups, faith groups, and schools in North Wales, who set the agenda for our activities.

TCC is governed by a board of trustees who direct how the organisation is managed and controlled within our ethical principles and regulatory framework. This creates the structure for TCC staff to work effectively in meeting our objectives and to conform to the legal framework set out by the Charity Commission.

 

We are keen to expand our board to better reflect the diversity of our member groups and the wider community. We are seeking individuals who can commit to joining us in our governing and fundraising activities, acting with unquestionable integrity, and supporting our endeavours in successfully promoting TCC’s charitable objectives.

The Trustee Role

Our trustee board is made up of a group of volunteers who are responsible for the governance of the TCC. The board members direct:

• Financial control - ensuring budgets are planned, monitored and adhered to.

• Structural development - policies and procedures, and creating a framework that allows the staff group to carry out              their roles effectively.

• Accountability - reporting to funders, and to members at TCC’s monthly Strategy meetings/AGM on how the charity has been performing and on future planned activities.

Trustees will be expected to be active members of the board, in its endeavours to achieve the objectives set out above. The trustee board seek to ensure that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard. As well as the various statutory duties, we encourage all trustees to make full use of any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board make good and sound decisions.

The basic time commitment is to attend four trustee board and joint trustee/staff meetings per year with possible additional meetings and discussions via electronic communications if needed to address matters arising. Additionally, trustees are encouraged to attend the monthly members’ Strategy meetings and TCC’s 24-hour intensive community organising training.

Qualities of a Trustee​

Essential

• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of the role (training will be provided).

• Commitment to the charity’s objectives, aims and values, and willingness to devote time to carry out responsibilities.

• Strategic and forward-looking vision in relation to the charity’s objectives and aims.

• Good, independent judgement, impartiality, and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and    external environment.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to respect confidentiality.

• Balancing tact and diplomacy with a willingness to challenge and constructively criticise.

Desirable

• Prior experience of committee/trustee work or the work of TCC.

• Knowledge of campaigning and community organising.

• A wider understanding of the local voluntary sector.

• Some experience in charity finance, HR, charity law, fundraising, or community organising.

• Leadership skills.

• Ability to communicate in English and Welsh.
